Emissions Reduction Targets
In 2025, Whirlpool Corporation updated its near-term emissions reduction targets and established a new long-term target to accelerate progress and align with the latest guidelines.
Our previous science-based targets represented an important step toward reducing carbon emissions in our operations (Scope 1 and 2) and from the use of sold products (Scope 3, Category 11). Building on the substantial progress made toward our original goals through 2025, our revised near-term goals for 2030 will enable us to advance emissions reduction progress. In addition, we established a long-term goal that broadens the scope of our future emissions reductions.
The updated targets establish a new 2021 base year to reflect our evolving business footprint and were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2025.
Near-Term Targets (2030) —
Scope 1, 2 and 3 Goals (from 2021 base year)
- Reduce operational emissions
(Scope 1 and 2) by 65% - Reduce emissions from the use of our products (Scope 3, Category 11) by 25%
Long-Term Targets (2050) —
Scope 1, 2 and 3 Goals (from 2021 base year)
- Reduce operational emissions
(Scope 1 and 2) by 90% - Reduce emissions from the use of our products (Scope 3, Category 11) by 90%
- Reduce emissions from all purchased goods and services (Scope 3, Category 1) by 90%
Both the new near-term and long-term targets also encompass an expanded boundary. We’re incorporating additional operational sites and product categories, covering a larger percentage of our global footprint and providing a more ambitious roadmap for our decarbonization journey.
