Resource Efficiency
As a leader in home appliances, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact through advanced energy- and water-efficient technologies.
Emissions/Energy
Whirlpool Corporation quantifies and manages all Scope 3 emissions, prioritizing those from the Use of Sold Products (Category 11), given the significant impact of energy consumption of our major appliances throughout the product life cycle. Our core strategy aims to enhance product energy efficiency through innovation and design.
We’ve made significant progress in product emissions reductions. We are working to reduce Scope 3, Category 11 emissions by 25% by 2030, compared to a 2021 base year. To see our recent progress in product emissions reduction, see our latest Impact Report.
To achieve this Scope 3 emissions reduction, we invest in innovation to launch products that improve performance and lower their overall carbon footprint. We continuously work to improve our emissions modeling and reporting capabilities so we can make projections against various business scenarios, rank contributing factors and track progress toward our target. We also engage regularly with product platform stakeholders to develop cross-category energy efficiency roadmaps and find opportunities to meet or exceed our Scope 3, Category 11 emissions target.
To learn more about our targets, please see the Emissions Reduction Targets section.
Water
Water efficiency is deeply embedded in our Design for Sustainability approach. We actively work to minimize our product water footprint by developing innovative, efficient appliances and promoting responsible water usage among consumers.
Multiple product categories prioritize water efficiency, including our standard dishwashers, which use less than four gallons of water per wash cycle. Additionally, many of our washers support water savings through features such as Auto Sensing, Eco Mode and water reuse cycles.
A wide range of Whirlpool products are also listed in the GetWaterSmart Product Directory, North America’s first single-location listing of certified water-efficient products.
